I check this website several times a week and hope someone posts an interesting message soon. What's going on in Hobart? Surely something interesting is happening in that pretty little town. Hope you all have a wonderful springtime. |

If you can find a way to come and get some of our snow and take it to Vancouver for the Olympics, we have plenty. Please take all of it! Please! |

Jackie, we're supposed to get another snow storm here starting late tonight and into Tuesday. Husband going to the store to buy milk and basic necessities. It seemed that when I was living in Lake County we got a lot of snow and cold weather. I remember one winter when I was in grade school we got a blizzard and I walked to school from our house on the southwest side of Lake George across the frozen lake and downtown to the Lutheran School. The only person besides me who made it was Mr. Berlin. Remember 20 degrees below zero winter days were not that uncommon. I'd rather have snow and very cold weather than 40 degrees and rain. |

Thanks for this great website. My wife, Colleen Earle Sheehan, is related to George Hobart Earle, founder of Hobart.
I enjoyed reading the history of Hobart and walking the tour.

Hi Pat,
We got about 2 inches, but just barely. We've had a pretty mild winter up here compared to most. And especially compared to last year with all of the sub zero temps in the minus teens.
I really want at least one more good snow storm before winter is over!

Did you folks in Hobart get snow yesterday and last night? Here just south of Indianapolis we got about 7", and east of us they got even more. Sure is nice to be fortunate enough to have a roof over our heads and snug as bugs with the furnace going. We even have a wood furnace for backup in case the power goes out. Hate to think what homeless people have to go through at any time but especially in weather like this. |

Enjoyed the memories. I do get back once in a while to stop at cemetary and see my parents grave. Growing up in Hobart was special because of Lake George and small town American image. I graduated in 1964 and we had the largest graduating class ever. We built the Wishing Well and Coach Deal was in his prime. I played on the golf team for Coach Trammel and went on to Indiana State University on a golf scholarship. I was introduced to golf by Mrs. Dorty Moody when the summer after I graduated the fifth grade. Her effort to take the time with an eleven year old kid was very kind. She impacted my life a great deal. Our graduating class has teamed together to write a book called "Growing Up in Hobart". Book one is finished and book number 2 will be finished soon. If you email howardo@verizon.net you can get a copy of the book. He does a great of collaborating the stories from the our classmates back then. |

Sure enjoyed seeing the Colts beat the Jets yesterday. My brothers who lives in Hobart and Valpo may be a Bears fans but I've been living close to Indy for quite a while so my husband and I are Colts fans. The Colts are going to the Super Bowl! Go Colts! |

It has been a while since I have written. All is well up here in Wisconsin BUT Hobart is still home. I just read all of the entries and they are ALL great. Lots of people with lots of good memories. Good stuff.
Keep on writing history Hobartites. This is a good record of "life in Hobart" for the future. |

I hope everyone will keep the people in Haiti in their thoughts and prayers after the terrible earth quake. Our church will be taking up a collection on Sunday to send to Haiti to try to help in some small way. Haiti is just 90 miles from the U.S.A. I heard on the news that three Americans are known dead so far. Don't know if they were missionaries who have been working there. Communication is nearly impossible and people in the U.S. are frantic trying to reach their families |

A Merry Christmas to everyone. And, hope Zeta's mom makes it to her 110th birthday next year. Glad she's out of the nursing home and back at home with Zeta. We all love being with our families, especially at Christmas. Hope you have a white Christmas but no slippin' and slidin' around. |

Hope all you folks in Hobart and elsewhere have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Sure wish I could be in Hobart but won't be able to make it home this time. Will be thinking of all of you while we have our kids at our house. They're making the food and bringing it to us! Now, aren't we blessed. |
